Living With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

A person who suffers from obstructive sleep apnea has moments when they can’t breathe as they sleep. The situation is brought about by the muscles in the airway becoming overly relaxed, constricting the space through which air can enter and exit the person’s lungs.

In response, the body typically forces a person with sleep apnea to wake up at this point, so they’re very often lacking in sleep. Not only that, but the constriction of the airways tends to make them snore loudly, affecting the sleep of people around them too.

Technology has so far advanced to the point where all this can be treated with a CPAP machine, like the Fisher Paykel hc254. The letters CPAP are an acronym for “Continual Positive Air Pressure”. And in its simplest form, a sleep mask is connected to an electronic box via a tube. During operation, a stream of air pressure feeds into the face mask so that the breathing channel is kept sufficiently open.

However, there can be certain complications brought about by the natural changes that take place as we sleep, which make choosing an effective cpap system really important.

As a case in point, it’s normal to undulate through periods of light and deep sleep. And very often it becomes more difficult to tolerate high level of air pressure during these lighter phases of the sleep cycle.

For this reason, the hc254 Fisher Paykel cpap has SensAwake technology built right into the device. And this helps a patient significantly by lowering the amount of air pressure being delivered when it senses the patient entering a lighter phase of sleep. Consequently, it’s much easier to get back to sleep.

In addition to this, the Fisher Paykel hc254 is able to give extra pressure relief with each outward breath that the user makes as well, making it far more comfortable to use. Incidentally, this is a standard feature built into the entire SleepStyle 200 Fisher Paykel range. At the heart of it, the aim is on simplifying the breathing process as much as possible, and this makes the hc254 a true leader in cpap machine technology.
